Virginia Reign would like to congratulate the 2008 Elite Girls and 04/05 Elite Girls on a successful weekend at the US Club Soccer Virginia State Cup.  The 2008 Elite Girls fell short in the Championship Match 1-2 to VSA, the defending National Champion. The 04/05 Elite Girls were crowned Champions after beating VA Rush 1-0.

The Virginia State Cup - hosted by US Club Soccer - is the pinnacle event for all youth teams in the state of Virginia as the winner gets to represent the state of Virginia in Denver, Colorado in the National Cup. As part of the US Club Soccer National Championship tournament - the Virginia State Cup is a single elimination tournament that culminates with a Final Four Weekend and Championship Match.  

The 2008 Girls started their State Cup run with a 3-1 win against SOCA at home to advance to the Semi-Final. In the semi-final match, the 08 Girls went up 1-0 off an early set piece. A few minutes later, Loudoun tied the match at 1-1 off a corner kick. Early in second half Loudoun would go up 2-1 off another corner kick. With 4 minutes to go, our girls never gave up and scored 2 goals in a span of 2 minutes to take the lead and eventually win the match 3-2. On Sunday in the Championship match, the team played a very good VSA group who are the defending National Champions. Reign and VSA went into the half tied at 0-0. Early in the second half, VSA scored off a free quick outside the 18-yard box. Once again, our girls battled back to even the score at 1-1 off a free kick. With 6 minutes to play, VSA scored the eventual game-winner off a corner kick. Congratulations to our 2008 Elite Girls and a fantastic run in the State Cup! We are proud of you and big things are ahead for you!

Our 2005/2004 Elite Girls started their State Cup run at home with a 3-0 against Beach FC. The win secured their spot in the Final Four and a match against FC Richmond. In the Semi-Final match, the team scored early in the first half to take the 1-0 lead and scored in the middle of the second half to secure the win. On Sunday, the girls had a re-match with VA Rush who they tied earlier in the season 0-0. The match was back and forth, and the Reign game winning goal was not scored until the last minute of the game. Congratulations to Coach Heather and the players on their Championship win, we are so proud of you!

Next up for the 04/05 Elite Girls is the National Cup which will take place back in Denver Colorado this summer.
